This will be the 17th straight season that the Merillon Athletic Association Little League of New Hyde Park will be proud to offer our Challenger Softball Program for children with handicaps.  The program features experienced coaches, with high school and college students helpers who give individual instructions to your child. We offer  three different levels of instruction depending on the players age and ability.  In addition to a weekly practice, we play a few games with other Challenger Programs in Nassau County and participate in the annual Nassau County Challenger Softball Tournament.

We accept children with any physical and mental handicap from mild to severe who cannot participate in our regular programs.  All Boys and Girls aged 6 thru19 are eligible. There is no residency requirement for this program.

We have also added a young adult program for players 19 to 30 years of age. The players in this division practice on Fridays with their own coaches, and have the option to participate in the Special Olympics in the fall as part of a Merillon Softball team. 

The cost is $50.00 which includes insurance, a team shirt, hat and trophy.  We play at the Merillon field complex on Marcus Avenue, between Lakeville Road and New Hyde Park Road, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Friday nights starting in the beginning of April and running thru the end of June.

Please give the program a try and join the fun.  You will be pleased with the enjoyment your child receives from learning a sport, developing his skills, making friends, and participating on a team. We also cooperate with the Special Soccer and Basketball programs we offer in New Hyde Park. Everyone is invited. Please have your child bring a friend.
